Make it personal When we create a sacred space to spend time with ourselves, the likelihood of regularly enjoying personal quiet time increases dramatically. More and more research informs us of the need to spend a few minutes quietly with ourselves on a daily basis. Indoors or outdoors? Most people would elect to have their sacred space indoors, I think. But if you live in a warm climate, you may be fortunate enough to create your space outdoors and enjoy it on a regular basis.
Have fun creating your space! Whether it's outdoors or indoors, you're going to want to create a little privacy for yourself in your sacred space. If you are "borrowing" a bit of space from another room, I recommend using a folding screen to partition your space. There are lots of options available for these. I recommend Amazon.com because they have affordable folding screens for every taste. Check out all the different styles and models. I tend to like simple, plain frames or those that I can customize to achieve the look and feel that I want. If you want something very simple and plain, Amazon offers those as well. Browse around so you can find what's just right for you.
Finding just the right screen is fun. And think about customizing the screen so it's more personalized. How about painting a pleasing image on it? Or maybe you'd like to glue on some finishing decorative touches? The choice is up to you!
Next, you'll likely want to find a piece that complements your space so you can settle and relax there. Take a look at fountains if you like the sound of running or bubbling water.
What about an outdoor garden space? What plants or flowers will you put into it? Will you have a focus feature, where your eyes are drawn? Perhaps some small statuary or a fountain appeals to you for your space. Many people like having a Buddha in their sacred outdoor space and there are many choices available.
Whatever it is, be creative! Some people will enjoy creating a piece or two for placement in their sacred space.
